Question: Q: Google drive file stream crash and hang the kernel a few time per day on Catalina Hi, I have two different MacBook Pro ( 15' 2018 and 16' 2019) and each time I install google drive file stream on them I get kernel crash a few time per day.
The latest version of macOS, called the Big Sur, was released very recently on November 12. However, Google Drive users are facing an issue after the update wherein they are unable to use the file stream feature.
The current MCAD Software Build uses MacOS 10.14 (Mojave), and the Help Desk has asked the community to remain on this version of the operating system. However, some users may be running MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) if they have a non-MCAD computer or if they updated by accident or intentionally to use new features.

Download macOS 10.15 Catalina Final ISO File (Google Drive). MacOS Catalina ISO File 7 Parts (Google Drive). The file needs too much speed internet in order to download it successfully. The size of the file is almost 6GB and it is very difficult to install. It is zipped with the WinRAR, while extraction you have to enter the password Geekrar.com.
Catalina is the latest build of Apple’s MacOS operating system, version 10.15. Released in October 2019, it’s packed with plenty of new features Mac owners should love, like spreading cloud.
As a result, several users have taken to the official Google Drive community forums complaining about the same.
Same problem – after downloading and installing the program, it says “Drive File Stream requires your approval” and prompts me to Open System Preferences, but the section to allow it doesn’t appear. I’ve uninstalled and redownloaded, added DFS to the “Full Disk Access” section under the Privacy tab, and restarted the computer multiple times, but nothing has worked. I hope a solution is on the way! Source
I have the same problem. I just got a new M1 MacBook Air. Installed File Stream last night. I can’t seem to get the “Allow” to show up. I have Google Drive checked for full disk access and files and folders, but I still get the same error message. Please help. I’m teaching remotely and use File Stream constantly. Source
As clear from the above comments, users are getting a “Drive File Stream requires your approval” prompt upon opening up the Google Drive app, soon after installation.
The prompt then directs users to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. However, within it, the option to grant the approval doesn’t appear.

Most users have already tried regular fixes like rebooting and reinstalling the application to no avail.
Now, it is quite likely that there is some sort of compatibility issue between Google Drive and Big Sur since the issue was non-existent previously on macOS Catalina.
However, Google did state that the issue is from the macOS’ end and that they can do nothing about it. Or at least that’s how a couple of users put it.
Exactly the same. After Live Chat with Google Support, cleaning caches etc., they said it was an Apple issue, so I need to contact them. Switched to ODrive for the moment. Whilst I prefer File Stream, at least ODrive works! Source
I am having the same issue. I spoke to support and Google says they do not have a solution for it yet. This is a serious issue as we use Business Drive across our organization. The solutions online are not effective either. Source
If you are one of the users facing the same, then we got a workaround for you to try.
Workarounds for the Google Drive file stream issue on macOS Big Sur
Workaround #1: There is a fix for the same listed on GitHub by user “mtan93”:
Step One: Launch Terminal
Step Two: Run in terminal curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mtan93/googledrivefilestream-bigsur/master/fix-bs-filestream.sh -o ~/fix-bs-filestream.sh && chmod +x ~/fix-bs-filestream.sh
Step Three: Run the script in terminal by pasting ~/fix-bs-filestream.sh
Step Four: Then allow the dfsfuse kext under System Preferences > Security & Privacy and reboot your Mac.
Step Five: Run the script again by pasting ~/fix-bs-filestream.sh
It is important to note here though, that this workaround doesn’t work on the latest M1-powered Macs and with Drive File Stream Version: 41.0.2.0+.
Workaround #2: Alternatively, you can also try the following:
Ya’ll Try going to Security and Privacy > Privacy > Full Disk Access AND Files and Folders. Unlock the lock in the corner. Check box Google Drive File Stream and it will quit and restart Google Drive.
Workaround #3: If none of the above worked for you, then you may try a different application with a similar functionality called “odrive” for now. Check it out from this link.
That being said, let us know in the comments below if the above workarounds fixed the Google Drive file stream issue on macOS Big Sur. Hopefully, Google/Apple would address the problem and provide a fix soon.

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on June 11, 2020) follows:
Google Chrome is hardly short of strange bugs from time to time. Over the past month or so, we’ve documented several stories related to various Chrome bugs.
Talk of the Chrome freezing issue that was reported by Asus to Google, Aw Snap! STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH crashes, Facebook Live not working on Chrome, Roblox issues, just to name but a few.
Google is always looking to fix these issues where it’s directly involved. In the event that other players are responsible, like the Facebook Live issue, the company is also quick to point that out.
Apparently, this is also the case for those experiencing graphics issues on the Google Chrome macOS Catalina version. This is after the update to macOS 10.15.4, where users are seeing horizontal blue lines on the screen.
I have a MacBook Pro 16″ running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4 (19E266) and this is what occasionally happens to me. Sometimes, seemingly after the laptop wakes up from sleep, all Chromium applications (Chrome, Electron, …) start having this ugly blue noise – surprisingly at the same time (not just one). On the other hand it does not seem to be WebKit in general, since Safari is not affected by that. Is it a known issue? Closing and reopening the Chrome does not help. I need to restart the computer. Source
As you can see from the image below I have blue horizontal lines appearing within my Chrome application window (2019 Macbook Pro 16). The application is the latest build of Chrome Version 80.0.3987.163 (Official Build) (64-bit). It has happened 3 times now – each time appear to be after the laptop has been left running overnight. Not it is not the full display affected only the application window. I’ve also only seen this in the chrome browser (I’ve also posted this to the Chrome support site) it sometimes goes away simply by killing Chrome but this time required a reboot. Anyone seen this before – got any ideas?? Source
Besides Google Chrome support forums, affected MacBook Pro owners have also flooded Apple forums to air their frustrations for something that has been ongoing for months now.

Someone says turning off GPU Hardware Acceleration within the Chrome settings could help address the issue since the MacBook Pro 16-inch model is known to have GPU issues. While this may offer a temporary fix, Google says the permanent fix lies with Apple.
What’s good is that as of this writing, Cupertino is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it. The information comes from Chromium issue tracker where the matter has been submitted. Here’s what someone from the Chromium team said while disclosing the information:
Everyone, Apple has communicated to us that they’re reproduced this problem in-house and are working on it. Please be patient for more updates.
And the same has also been highlighted by a Google Chrome product forums expert.

Looks like this is something that Apple is aware of and are working on. You can go to crbug.com/1068170 and star this issue to be kept up to date. Source
Considering that Apple is working on the matter, it should soon be resolved. Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close watch and will keep you posted about the developments on the matter.
In what appears to be a blame game, Apple told Forbes that it’s not aware of such an issue on Chrome for macOS and that the company does “not have anything to contribute” on the matter, essentially sending the ball back into Google’s court.
Google says the Chrome rendering issue squarely lies with Apple but the latter says it has nothing to do with it, so who’s to blame? Maybe third-party graphics card drivers? At this point, your guess is as good as ours.

Considering how popular Chrome browser is, we expect both parties to actively work towards establishing the root cause alongside a permanent solution. Meanwhile, it’s about time you found out what other browsers like Safari and Firefox have to offer.
